Stay or Go

This week we read a story about a family who moved to the United States from Ukraine.  The father hated it here but the kids loved it. Walter, the 12 year old, refused to go back with his parents.

Here's a picture of Walter when he was 12:

Here is a picture of Walter and his family now.  He's the one in the middle (I think!).

Saved by a Cell Phone!

This week we read a story about a guy who got lost in a storm on a mountain in Colombia.  He was saved when a woman from the phone company called to tell him he didn't have any more prepaid minutes on his phone.  He sure was lucky!

Here's this week's vocabulary to practice:  here

Here's a picture of the mountain he got lost on.  It's called Nevado del Ruiz.  Actually it's not a mountain, it's a volcano!  Would you climb a volcano?  I don't think I would!

Was he dead or not?

This week's story was Buried Alive, a story about a boy who died and was buried.  Except he wasn't really dead! I think it's a very creepy story.  To find out what creepy means and to practice the other vocabulary from the story click here and go to Buried Alive.

Don't Get Caught Lying!

This week we read Love or Baseball? about a guy who lied to his girlfriend so he could watch a baseball game.  Too bad for him, he got caught!  We have a saying in English:

Honesty is the Best Policy
Do you agree?

Here's the link to practice the vocabulary from the story  :https://www.spellingcity.com/deniselleck@sbcglobal.net/  Click on "Love or Baseball."

Have fun and don't lie!
